sHAWDESH DESK:
The High Court on Monday set December 7 for hearing the petition filed by main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir seeking bail in a case filed over attack on the residence of Chief Justice in Dhaka on October 28.
The HC bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Shahed Nuruddin set the date for the hearing.
On Sunday, the BNP secretary general Sunday filed a petition with the High Court challenging the lower court’s order that denied his bail in a case relating to attack on the Chief Justice’s official residence during the party’s October 28 grand rally, Fakhrul’ lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court’s acting judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader denied Fakhrul’s bail on November 22, stating that the BNP leader was involved in the attack on the official residence of the chief justice.
Lawyer Sagir Hossain argued in the bail prayer that 81-year old Fakhrul was detained in the jail implicating him in the politically-motivated case to keep him out of BNP’ politics as he had been leading and placing the main opposition BNP’s demands during the party’ street protests.
Ramna police station’s inspector Mofizur Rahman filed the case against a total of 72 BNP leaders.
Mirza Fakhrul has been in the jail since October 29.
